GANGA RAKSHA MANCH

Taking the cause of ‘Clean India – Healthy India’ forward, the Ganga Raksha Manch, Hardwar has taken up the cause of saving Ganga from pollution due to negligent waste disposal systems built by factories around the region as well as other factors that contribute largely to the rising levels of impurities and pollutants being added in to the Ganga everyday.

Based loosely on the lines of the Save Ganga Movement, the Ganga Raksha Manch having Head quarters at Patanjali Yog Peeth (Trust) Hardwar, is presided over by P.P. Swami Ramdevji Maharaj and has a lot of illustrious religious, social leaders & Organizations, as marg Darshaks.

The Ganga Raksha Manch has the following Agenda

Declare Ganga as a National River

The Ganga, the Cradle of our Civilization and the lifeline of crores of our people should be regarded and respected as much as the National anthem or the India tricolor.

Request formation of Ganga Preservation committee/Department headed by the Central
Government.

A high-powered Committee should be formed under the Central Government to have a lasting solution to the problem of pollution in the Ganga river.

Regarding waste disposal systems of the industries, towns and cities.

Dumping of industrial effluents and sewage from cities and towns into rivers must be completely banned and strictly implemented. Studies regarding geo-environmental management, ecological studies relative to the water pollution must be carried out to better understand the problem at hand.

Dumping waster materials into the Ganga must be declared a crime.

We strongly urge the Government to declare dumping industrial waste, waste from cities and villages and disposing animal carcasses in the Ganga a criminal offence.

Effects of the Tehri dam to Ganga

Tehri Dam is the primary dam of the Tehri Development Project, centered near Tehri Town in the state of Uttarakhand in India.

Since 2005, filling of its reservoir has led to a reduced flow of Bhagirathi water from the normal 1000 ft3/s to a mere 2 ft3/s and at some points, this tampering has lead to the Bhagirathi not flowing at all.

So, we propose that a part of the Bhagirathi be routed from behind the dam pass the reservoir and be joined in to the main river after the dam. Thus, maintaining its traditional flow of the river.

Realising the failure of the Government to take positive action regarding the same, the Ganga Raksha Manch has started a signature campaign for some time now and we will be giving the list of signatures to the Collectors of the respective districts who will in turn forward these lists to the Prime Minister’s Office to show the solidarity of the public with the Ganga Raksha Manch.
